Not losing weight as fast as you’d like? Watch this.

April 7, 2010

With the popularity of our new Facebook Fan Page, I’ve been able to talk and interact with thousands of DSP followers…it’s been great!

But I seem to be seeing the same question come up over and over again…

“Isabel, I’m not losing weight as fast as I would like.  What should I do?”

Listen to my answer in this video (and I promise I don’t yell at anyone).

  1. This was really good info and reaffirmation due to the fact that I had an awesome workout today toning. I can feel the muscle burning as I type and the day is still young. Thanks a bunch.

  2. Hi
I like many aspects of this eating plan but I am (easing) into it, by that I mean I am not (throwing) out food that does not fit the plan if it was already open, if it was not open I gave it to the food bank. Reason is I just cannot throw away food being poor when I grew up, we threw nothing out. But I am almost out of all that and was already using buffalo and wild game being a hunter and quite abit of organic foods anyway so not a big change except CHEESE and BREAD and MILK, I love that stuff so my weight loss has been slower than if I had been strictly following the plan but this week is the real start and now we will see. One question is the amount of portion what about cholesterol it seems that there is a lot of eggs and other meat type protein and my cholesterol is a little high now?

  3. Thanks Isabel for continuing to motivate us. I have slipped off program but I need to get back on! I don;t know why I get so “Gung Ho” a=do allmy shopping and preparing and then a week or so later I just give up. I need to work on this and get back to eatting healthier and back on program, so thanks for this video!

  4. Food for thought (no pun intended), I use this analogy when I explain muscle weight vs. fat weight to my friends. Take a pillow, it weighs 1 lb. lets say, if you squeeze that pillow into a small ball, it still weights the same, but it is now smaller and tighter!

  5. I haven’t lost but a few pounds, but I have gone down a dress size and lost an inch in my waist. Who cares what the scale says as long as you look good?

  6. I am a 55 year old struggling with weight. History: Ironman at the age of 40, 11:22:13, rode across the country at age 50, San Diego to St. Augustine, FL…I am 6’2 and now weigh 210lbs and want to get back to 185 lbs. I work out twice daily and drop weight during the week to 204 and then the weekend hits. I still train, but on Monday, 210 again…it is driving me nuts. It was so easy as a young man and could eat any and all and could not gain…my Ironman weight was 167 the day before the race. Those days are long gone. I like your diet concepts but need some advice. Anything you can offer is greatly appreciated!
    Jim

  7. I used to run and work out at the gym. I had just started to seriously train as a heavy lifter when I became crippled with arthritis is my right hip. I am now 63 with arthritis in my spine and two artificial hips. I can no longer run or exercise in the same ways I could before. I wish there was an exercise program available to older and handicapped people.

  8. Thanks for your explanation “of how much a pound is”. Yes, a pound of butter is quite weighty. I know I have gained weight “but I know its because I haven’t exercised much”. I’m trying to get my lower left back pelvis muscle normalized so not to be in pain. (I’ve had 3 operations in 3 months and believe me I know when I have pain). I’ve had this pain for at least 6 months if not more. The pain started “when I was talking to a grocery store cashier “I was still using 2 canes for my walking”. I leaned on the conveyor belt when talking to her. Everything was fine until I went to leave (after talking about 15 minutes). I could barely move. I was so sore, it took me a good 20 minutes or more to walk 1&1/2 blocks home. I have no idea what happened. To let you know what all happened:

November 16/2008 Fell at work and broke my right arm. Found out that I have Osteoporosis in it. Have a metal bar in my right arm.

December 24/2008 Fell at home (was wearing boots “because of snow”). While waiting for a ride to my sister’s place for Christmas dinner, I accidentally moved a foot “while I was standing still on carpet” and fell forward (landing on right arm). Rolled onto my back quickly. Of course, broke my right hip.

January 26, 2009. Had surgery to remove a Cancerous tumor. While in hospital (December) to start physio on my Right hip, experienced “unusual Epileptic attack”. Normally I get a warning. Not this time.

Because of all the sitting in the hospital (and before I also had the weight problem), weight crept up.

I’ve been trying to do some exercises late at night (before going to bed). I just purchased an Exercise bike last week and will be delivered to my apt. on Tuesday. This should build up some muscles in my legs and help my toosh some. I have weight “problems around the hips and toosh area as well as upper legs.”

    Thanks again, Isabel.

    Yours truly,

    Linda Fraser

  9. That was a good ! I also felt the same way because i wasn’t losing that much fat at first. I was getting a little frustrated until a friend of mine introduced me to intravel training. After about 2 weeks i noticed i was starting to lose more weight. So to me problem solved, so if anyone want’s to lose weight at a decent pace do interval training. Some people call it circuit training but it is all the same. It can be pretty intense and exausting but after a week or so you will see results.

  10. Hi there,
I really like your program and am impressed with the excellent email support after buying the course. Am also now one of your affiliates and although I’ve not made any sales yet I’m working hard on it! Thanks for your help.

    Linda

  11. Hi Isabel,

Being a Personal Trainer and Boot Camp owner I talk nutrition with my clients often. I think your program is one of the most sensible nutrition programs I’ve read. I appreciate you addressing some of the underlying issues that prevent weight loss, ie; Gluten, sugar, chemicals in our foods ect… AND I especially appreciate you NOT pushing diet products, bars, pills and any crazy tactics for weight loss!! Thanks for keeping it simple and preaching good, clean, healthy eating!!

  12. Great video! And I love the visuals. It is hard to remember how much 1 lb. is and what a good accomplishment it is to lose one pound, especially when you’re pretty close to your goal.

  13. Hi there – just to comment on the muscle “weighing” more than fat issue. A pound is a pound is a pound no matter what it is – so muscle doesn’t really weigh more it just takes up less space in your body making you look leaner. That’s why you can lose several pounds of fat while building muscle with your strength training and not really see the scales move but notice that your clothes are fitting much better. Like Isabel says -throw away the scales and just “notice” the subtle or not so subtle changes in YOU! It’s all about YOU feeling good in every sense-physically, emotionally & spiritually.

  14. I love the information you share. It makes sense and I believe it will work. I have purchased your library of healthy eating and losing weight (the diet solution) but I haven’t recieved it yet. I ordered it around the 12th of march. I do have the downloads but I paid for the hard copies and eagerly wait for them. Could you check to make sure they are still on their way to me.

  15. Great video as usual and very welcome. I have “only” lost about 8 pounds in nearly 2 years of working out. But my body fat percentage does seem to be inching gradually downward so I do know I’m still making progress. I never expected this much time to have gone by and I’d still be working this hard, but, well, progress is progress.

  16. Thank you so much for the support you offer. I purchased your program approx. one month ago. Had great results the first 2 weeks, but am struggling some now. Seems like I\’m eating the same foods over and over, but when I try to add new foods (grains, more sugary veggies) my weight loss stops. Also, adding these carbs seems to trigger my sugar cravings. I choose not to give up entirely my sweets. Any suggestions? I should add that I will be a young 66 years old next month, but very much need to drop about 15 more pounds….so my doctor says. I am taking NO drugs which I hope to keep that way, and do have celiac disease.

  17. I think i’m going to only weigh myself once a month from now on. I’ve only last a few pounds the last few weeks, but i’ve dropped a whole pant size!

    Thanks Isabel =)

  18. Isabel… i just love you…. your attitude and heart for people getting healthy is nothing short of beautiful… it\’s inviting and comforting… that\’s what the beauty of a women is about… nurturing… caring… yet strong and loyal… i see that in you… not only in your videos…. but hear it in your email updates and the like.

i just wanted to encourage you today… to KEEP it UP… you are making God proud… honestly…

when He gets His glory Isabel… you get your joy!

God blesses… may you TASTE & SEE of His goodness in a new way.

  19. I have a really embarrassing facebook question. (you’ll see what a geek I’m not!) If I become a fan of the diet solution, will everyone on the planet see what I post on your facebook site?

Also, I was reading some of your past blog posts and you were going to post a before and after picture when you had completed several weeks of Rob Poulos (sp) program. Did you get a chance to do that? I couldn’t figure out where they might be. I did purchase Rob’s program (not through your site so I didn’t qualify for your fatburning recipe book) and wondered if you were still pleased with it!

I am excited about your program but have been treating it a bit like an unused treadmill without being able to hang clothes on it! I need to look up how to handle restaurant eating. Really struggling with that! Thanks for reading my ramblings………..

  20. Isabel, I have had a couple of people at my work ask if I was losing weight and I said a little. I’m not doing any muscle building exercises yet only walking. I feel less fat in my stomach, but I still have a lot to lose. The scale is hardly changing at all? Should I keep track of measurement more than pounds to be able to stay motivated?
Also, I like sweets–when I want something sweet now I have a baked sweet potato with butter and cinnamon, but if I’ve pretty much had all my food for the day does that blow the whole day for me or how does that work? That is my biggest problem is sweets or like having popcorn. Is there a way to still have popcorn? I haven’t seen that mentioned anywhere? Please let me know….. I know I feel better overall since I’ve cut out soda and am primarily just drinking well water (no chlorine) plain, with lemon or with Raw Apple Cider Vinegar and stevia. I have been really strict with the exception of the sweet potato for dessert, but I figured at least it’s on the plan and healthier than ice cream. By the way is there any ice creams in the health food store that would have ice cream you could eat once in a while?
    Thanks for your help,
    Greg

  21. Isabel,

Thank you for the visual of the “space” requirements of fat vs lean muscle mass in my body. I, too, am one of those who was getting discouraged because of losing “only 4 pounds!” in the last two months. I know that muscle weighs more than fat, but I never took that fact through the thought process that fat also takes up more space!

    Thanks again….. I needed that!

  22. Just started today. This morning made myself and hubby an omelet with onions, broccoli, spinach, a little meat, 4 eggs and garlic granules sauteed in EVOO Organic, of course.

I was so relieved when he said he loved it.

And now that I have gone shopping to get the staples and fresh fruits and veggies, he is all excited about our new life style.

For lunch we had a great salad with the Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, EVOO and Italian spice thrown in. He loved it, and was very full afterwards.

He is a big man,6\’3\" and was quite the eater.

So, we are on the road to a healthier lifestyle.

    Thank you, Isabel and Jeff

  23. Yes, works great, just make sure you are making something with a nutty flavor, otherwise you might want to try spelt or rice flour.

  24. Hi Isabel,
I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. I’ve been treating it for 2 months. I know this is suppose to have some impact on weight loss but I don’t know to what extent. I started your plan a month ago. I lost 5 lbs in the first week and kept it off but like all other weight loss plans it doesn’t move from that. I have no problem sticking to the eating and I work out 4 times a week. Any suggestions?

  25. Karen, if you haven’t already, maybe you should try cutting out all dairy and all grains. These could help you get off that plateau.

  26. Thanks Isabel!
What I like is not only your great website and coaching, but also the regular tips. I’m learning a lot and trying my best.
But most of all I simply love your great sense of humour!
(I had to laugh out loud about the story of you following those two ladies in the supermarket!)
    Best wishes,
    Tim

  27. Hi Isabel,
I’m struggling with one aspect on what I know to be a factor in my health. I work 10-12 hour days. So its an early start and I’m exhausted by the time I get home. All I want to do is eat and go straight to bed. I try to make it a light meal, like yogurt and fruit, or a salad, or some grilled vegis and fish. Small portions. But then going to bed right away leaves me feeling horrible. I can’t just stay up longer or I don’t get the rest I need. What do I need to do to change this cycle? Help!
    Janice

  28. Hey Janice, why do you think you’re feeling horrible? Are you not eating enough? Is it the food you’re eating? Give me a little more info and I’ll try to give you some ideas to make you feel better.

  29. Hey there Isabelle,
I have just started Metabolic Typing with my trainer & love your website! I am a protein-type (Parasympathetic Dominant) & loved my first 2 weeks of food, but I have put on 5kg (10 lb) & am scared to continue!
    Can you please help?
I had lost 15kg with Jenny Craig previously & kept it off – ie low-fat diet, however stress levels had brought some weight back on, so I thought I’d try Metabolic Typing.
What do you suggest? My trainer has now taken me off all starchy carbs & dairy, but I can’t go on like that!
    Thanks
    Nicki

  30. Hi Isabel!
I follow your plan for about 6 weeks already. I lost between 1-2 pounds. Very bad results! Now I am eating almost all organic food and read labels. My worst problem is a night cravings. Very difficult to stay away from food at night. Nothing really works. I want something crunchy and comforting. I don’t like eating salads and vegetables, doesn’t like meet. Because of food deprevation, i feel moody and irritated. Any advise?

  31. Isabel, Thank’s For Your Info about the diet solutions. I have enjoyed visiting this site today and hope to visit many more times in the future. I bookmarked this page. I really like your site. I’ll bookmark the other pages. :)

  32. Marina, when I get the urge to snack at night, I usually eat some raw nuts – they are definitely crunchy and they’re a healthy alternative to the chips or candy you may be craving!

  33. Nicki, if you are not happy with the way the program is working, you may need to reevaluate what type you are. How is it working being off the dairy? As tough as it may be when you start, that might be the solution. You could also try cutting out grains altogether.

  34. For everyone out there craving ice cream: Turtle Mountain – Purely Decadent is a dairy free frozen dessert you could eat instead! Remember that this is a treat though and should not be eaten on a regular basis :)

  35. I just want to say I tried the Ally diet and after 3 months never lost a pound. I followed all the directions and exercised but nothing. My husband did great, but I was going no where. I found this program and took the Metabolism test and alas, I hit the jack pot. I was not eating enough carbs or calories. I just made a little adjustment in my eating habits and the weight is finally starting to come off!!! Thanks Isabel
