How to reduce your risk for Heart Disease the Natural Way

Posted by isabel

Are you one of the millions of people that is suffering from heart disease or even worse?  Have already experienced a heart attack.

These days it’s difficult not to meet someone who is either suffering from heart disease, has had a heart attack or has been told they are at risk for heart disease. It’s just about as common as meeting someone with brown hair. Unfortunately, the media and even many well-meaning doctors are completely misinformed on how to tackle this growing epidemic. It’s the number one killer in the US and plaguing many other countries as well.

What are we to do?

The best plan of attack is to combat the risk factors the best we can.

Use the following 5 tips to get you started on a heart healthy plan:

1. Drop the smokes. Yes, smoking has been shown to be one of the biggest risk factors in heart disease, mainly because of all the toxic chemicals added to cigarettes (not that I’m recommending tobacco or anything.)

2. Walk, walk, walk. If finding time for a structured exercise program is just too much of a challenge right now, just start by walking. I have known many people who have strengthened their heart and reversed severe conditions by getting outside and walking. If you can, find a scenic route. There’s nothing more calming than the outdoors. (I highly recommend whistling and singing while you walk. It makes for happy thoughts.)

3. Calm down. By this I mean, don’t stress about the stuff you don’t have to. This is actually a very funny statement coming from me who used to stress about everything! Deadlines, laundry, work, family… you name it, I stressed about. Not until I realized that this would kill me no matter how healthy my food was did I drop the stress and pick up the laughter. Right now as I write this newsletter, I’ve got more things that need to get done today than are humanly possible. My reaction “Haha..better put my Superwoman shirt on”

4. Do not and I repeat, do not go on a low-fat diet. Your heart condition may get worse in your attempts. Drop the bad fats (like hydrogenated oil and the nasty oil in French fries and donuts) and start eating more healthy fats like coconut oil, olive oil, salmon, walnuts and whole organic eggs.

5. Do not be afraid to eat saturated fat. If read “The Truth About Saturated Fat” in The Diet Solution Program you know that eating saturated fats is not what is causing people to get heart disease. It is processed foods, sugars and an overabundance of refined carbohydrates that is making this country so sick. The whole saturated fats topic gets me so fired up, I even made a video to further inform you – check it out here:

Even tackling each one of these tips one at a time will get you closer to a healthy heart and a lifetime of good health.

Oatmeal, lots of vegetables and drinking enough water are good ways to fight cholesterol as far as I have found. I use olive oil in cake mixes where it asks for oil and it does not alter the taste. Whole grain bread and brown rice are all good ways I believe to lower cholesterol. Google colon and rectal cancer and follow the dietary formulas and I believe this also helps the heart too.

  5. This is a very straight forward talk, and I personally have tried some of these natural means and they walk. Thanks for sharing this with all.

    Dear Isabel.
Health Authorities do not suggest that saturated fat be avoided, only that they be limited to 10%.
    Regards, Brian.

Have had a triple by-pass. Also have spinal stenosis and walking is all but impossible as are any body weight-bearing exercises. I do the chair exercises & stretching every day, but there is NO cardiovascular benefit from these. The goofy saying, “between a rock & a hard place” pretty well describes my situation.

I know from experience that your program & video are absolutely correct! Sugar is Public Enemy No. 1, Dear People…listen to Isabel’s EVERY WORD…she is 100% correct in everything she says (and I’m not related to her ;>)!

Good for you, Isabel! You’re saving lives!

  14. Kathryn Davis says:

why do you not recommend cooking with extra virgin olive oil?

Different fats have different smoke points, so they should only be used below certain termperatures. I go into more detail about this in the DSP manual.

I have read this and heard the vidio. I am fifteen years as a diabetic and at this point in my life I am twelve weeks free from insulin. One thing I have learned thru extensive research is that what we put in our mouths gets us into trouble and what we put in our mouths can get us out of trouble. Watch your labels when choosing food. The main point I wanted to make is that your body burns fats when you are sleeping. If you feed it empty carbs before you go to bed it will burn those first because it is easier to burn and will not burn fat. Exercise forces the body to burn sugar. keep up the good work helping people to help thenm selves. I have also gone thru a quintuple by-pass and have not felt this good in years. I am not blowing smoke for I have been there and I know we can all improve our situations.

  16. Tammy says:

Mark that is fantastic but have to ask what you mean by empty carbs? Sorry for my ignorance, I am truly a beginner on this healthy eating and have a husband to save from insulin. :)

  17. Very interesting article. Thank you very much for the post

great video, I get so sick and tired of demonization of saturated fats. it was simply because dishonest researchers lumped man made sats with natural sats, manmade sat are made from veggie oils hence not true saturated fats.

a good article if I may here suggest is the obesity epidemic is metabolic syndrome a nutritional defiecency? I suffer (but am recovering) metabolic syndrome big time. any worse I would become full blown type 2. I found if I reduce my natural sats too much I get allergic reactions to just about everything, and get the sneezes and running nose and itches from touching plants that lasts all day and into the night. once I reintroduced whole milk about a cup a day it all stopped.

I have been sticking to a low gi diet, plus making sure ot eat enough red meat for iron, and regular organic milk, and some supplementation for sugar regulation. my hubby just got his blood done and he has very high triglycerides and cholesterol and will be taking large doses of fish oil. I am trying to show him to lower high glycemic carbs to low and being I am already eating that way it won’t be hard for him to see what to eat. he is scared he will have a heart attack.

I am encouraging him not to reduce sat fats but to reduce the desserts that are pretty high in sugar.I eat mostly fruit, or protein drinks made with a little milk and almond milk and fruit plus preimium whey. but there is other things i am doing as well. thanks for the video.

Eat to live, don’t live to eat, see the difference..

  20. Mike says:

How much of your information did you receive from the Atkins diet?
I like the fact that you don’t push fake sugars. The sweeteners I use are usually from oranges or other fresh fruit, which I squeeze by hand.

  21. mike says:

My husband, who is from the south had a heart attack a few months ago. He and I always ate differently. I am a vegan, he likes his fast food, burgers and sodas. I threatened divorce if he did not change his ways. He was up to almost two hundred pounds at 5’7. I started packing his lunches, not letting anything into the house that was tempting. I buy him healthy foods and follow the food pyramid.

He lost two pants sizes and fifty pounds in six month’s time just eating healthy and exercising and cutting down on candy bars and sodas.

His dad had a quadruple bypass, his mom stints in her heart, and his brother died at age 34 on the golf course, so it is in his genes, but we are going to beat the odds.

    Thanks for the info.

I ignored my Dr.’s advice to take cholesterol meds to lower my 400+ cholesterol count. (fears of side effects etc.) thought i could diet right…….well, yes I ended up having a heart-attack! 3 stents put in collaped arteries. I am now taking the meds and in a year my cholesterol is normal. Thank God.
