Is Whole Wheat Bread fattening?
People often think they are doing something healthy for themselves by switching their white bread for whole wheat bread. Although this is a better option than white, whole wheat bread can still be preventing you from losing your unwanted weight.
I am not a big fan of bread or bread type products. Actually, I think most people could feel a thousand times better if they stopped eating so much bread every single day. Toast for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, bread basket at dinner…we could feed a small village with the amount of bread I see some people consuming in one day (or several villages depending on who you’re talking about).
No, I am not saying to never have bread ever again (Hey, its life, you gotta enjoy it, right?). What I am saying is that 4-5 servings of some kind of bread type product every day is making thousands of people gain weight, preventing them from losing their unwanted weight and worst of all, bringing about diseases like Type 2 Diabetes and Heart Disease.
I don’t eat very much bread at all and I really don’t even miss it. I guess I have just come to enjoy all the other delicious food I eat each day that I don’t even feel bread is missing from my meal plans.
Here are my “bread free” strategies and exactly how you can lower your own bread intake each day:
1. When you think of breakfast, don’t automatically think toast, bagels, or a roll. A couple of hard boiled eggs over sliced tomatoes is delicious. You can also make a quick batch of oatmeal and add walnuts and berries. How about cottage cheese and pineapple? The breakfast options are endless.
2. Pack snack foods and take them with you to work. In less than 2 minutes, I can throw natural peanut butter, raw almonds, dried fruit (no sugar added), an apple or banana and baby carrots all in a bag and be out the door. Taking these food items to work with you will help you stay away from the employee room bagels or donuts. (Don’t even get me started on how evil donuts are). Slap some peanut butter on an apple and munch away at that, all while making fun of the people eating donuts (Just Kidding, that’s not nice.)
3. Don’t depend on sandwiches as lunch every day. How about some salmon, broccoli and brown rice? Leftover chicken from last night and a sweet potato? Imagine that lunch is another version of dinner and not just a mid day sandwich inhaling contest.
4. Make “the bread basket” a once-in-while experience. You really do not need to be serving a bread basket for dinner at home if you are offering healthy carbohydrate choices like salad, cooked vegetables, brown rice, millet, or quinoa.
5. Oh, and how could I forget? Don’t think that eating “100% Whole Wheat” is any better. It is still refined flour (maybe just not bleached) and a huge contributor to weight gain. I could go on and on about this but I have covered all the details about how detrimental wheat products are to your weight loss efforts in Chapter 9 of The Diet Solution Program.
Start to think outside the “bread box” today for healthy alternatives to your daily bread intake. What one thing can you do today to get started?

I love that this plan sounds so good, and I’d love to try it. But I’d like something that has has a risk free trial, just incase it doesn’t work for me.
The Diet Solution Program offers a 60-day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with the program.
I keep looking for what Isabel has to say about certain products and I am having a hard time finding anything. I am especially curious about her thoughts on white rice, milk, and organic whole wheat flour. Is there any kind of free resource that gives a little more information on more varieties of products other than what’s listed here on the grocery list.
I love this healthy eating plan the weight is falling off me and I am always full never craving LOVE my new body it has only been 4 weeks and I lost 2.5kg still counting!! This weight loss includes a 2 week holiday in Greece
Thank you Isabel!!!!!
Great info Isabel…I love your articles!! You mentioned in the video breads that are
“good”…such a sprouted grain breads. I have tried some and LOVE them…but how do I know what to look for in a bread and if what I am eating is considered one of the good ones?? Thanks!!
Andi, there is only one bread I recommend, and that’s Ezekiel 4:9.
Was I surprised to see MY NAME right in the letter from Isabel….. about eating cheese…..
Yes, mam…. I shall remember that – domino size piece, not the whole block!! Ouch on the breads…. I’d rather have bread than a desert…. but I guess I’ll drop both…. I have lost 5 pounds, but can’t seem to keep it going.
Isabel. My wife has become somewhat of a Nutrition Expert in only that she has read every book on the market and has retained most of the unanimous findings as a result. She is also a RN and has been required to study nutrition as a result. Funny,,,, with all the repeating claims and redundant projections of facts in some of these books, I find your program amazing and I can see that about all of what you are saying makes sense. I have lost 17 Lbs in about 1 1/2 months. A lot of what you say is what I have heard all along but some books have only a few good concepts about weight loss and fat burning but yor program seems to take all the good ideas and put them into one program. The Organic Ideas are just another step in good health. Its (again) amazing how you’ve culminated so many concepts into one pakage. P.S. You look hot ! ,,, John
Thanks to Isabel, the TRUTH is being shared. What a difference in what Isabel shares as truth and what the FDA tells us. We have been lied to for so long. Thank Goodness for Isabel and the TRUTH. The TRUTH shall set you FREE. FREE from the extra pounds that create pain, discomfort, and disease.
I have some Multi-Seed Crackers withthe ingredients – Whole grain brown rice flour, Sesame Seeds, Potato Starch, Safflower Oil, Quinoa seeds, Resistant Maltodextrin, Flax seeds, amaranth seeds, Chia seeds, Tamari Soy Sauce Poweder (Tamari Soy Sauce [soybeans, salt], Maltodextrin [corn], salt), and salt.
Are these crackers still on the no-no list or because they don’t contain wheat are they ok. (Cause I really like them
)
Dhollis, I would stay away from those crackers. I don’t recommend consuming safflower oil or maltodextrin, and I’m sure the salt in these crackers is not a DSP-approved salt.
After doing some research I understand why I should stay away from maltodextrin, but what is wrong with safflower oil? (it seemed things I read said that is wasn’t bad, but rather good). Also I found it interesting that you did not mention the Tamari Soy Sauce Poweder when you say to stay away from soy.
I was looking at some of the DSP approved recipies and I see that Rice Flour is used as an ingredient. Is it ok to use Rice Flour to make pankaces? I was thinking if I could make pancakes with them, omit the sugar, I could use them as a bread substitute for a once in a while meal addition?
I bought some dark rye crackers which list as ingredients: whole grain rye flour & salt. Are these OK to eat?
Yes, Ivey, you can use rice flour. Please let us know how the pancakes turn out!
Pam, I would be careful with those crackers – the salt is most likely not unrefined.
I was a bit skeptical at first because I have been on soo many diets but I thought oh well I’ll try this one because it guarantees your money back which is hardly ever seen. Well, I went to Whole Foods Store to do my shopping. When I saw the prices my jaw dropped. I thought there is no way that I can afford this diet program(I started with the 19 day quick start). Well, when I got to the register I was afraid that I would not have enough money even though I was keeping track pretty much of the way. I live on Social Security Disability, so I only get paid once a month so this food had to last that long, one month. To my surprise, my grocery bill was $40.00 LESS than my usual amount that I spend each month. Wow!!! But, the best part was that my monthly doctors visit was the proof iin the pudding as they say. I had lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks!!! I am a true believer that this new LIFESTYLYE not diet works. Thank you so much Isabel for helping all of us who have tried and am using your program and your daily newsletters are a big help also.
I love your prigram.. Since subscribing I have lost 30 lbs.. Still have that belly fat however to get rid of..Finding all the right foods is not easy, and sometimes I cheat ..I do find that cutting out sweets it takes less sweetner to satisfy me..You mentioned oatmeal for BK ,I love it with fresh cut apples ,or any other fresh fruit.. I used to use raisens, dried blue berries, cranberries . To much sugar ,or added sugar..
Hello: I am shocked about this info ?? I have been pushing whole wheat on my kids for years
since when is soy not good for us ? Omg this is devastating really
Hi,
Regarding breads, is bread made with brown rice flour, kamut or spelt any better than traditional white or wholewheat flour breads?
Thanks!
Do you have any recipes for wheat-free crackers (possibly from ground seeds or DSP approved ingredients)? I so miss a bit of crunch and a platform for my fresh fruit in the morning! Thanks for an informative article…
I refused to consumption of white bread, and my weight began to leave. Now in very small quantities of it black bread. Completely abandon the bread can not. Limit the intake of biscuits and I am glad the departing kilograms. Thank you Isabel for smart tips!
Nice points on wheat bread. I had suspected that was the case, but I wasn’t sure. I don’t know why. Anyway, it was great information! Thank you for sharing!
Some years ago, I gained a lot of weight and started having some hormonal based problems. This was while living in the States. I became convinced that it had to do with all the preservatives in the food, but at the time organic was out of my financial ballpark. Since moving to a country where organic is readily available and very little food has preservatives in it (not even the canned stuff), I have lost nearly half of what I’d gained – without dieting. So I love Isabel’s diet plan because someone besides me is saying I should eat this way, so I get less grief about it. One problem I’ve been having constantly for many years, which didn’t disappear when I was able to change my food sources, was the horrendous exhaustion I was experiencing after eating. After finding out my sister is coeliac, I started looking into being wheat intolerant. So I’ve started making bread with rice flour, cornmeal, or buckwheat, and I haven’t had a problem since. So I’m waiting to see if possibly it was also having an effect on my weight. Eight kilos lost so far, so we’ll see.
Hi i was wondering is it alright to eat fetter cheese? i have another 4kg to loose and its like the most stubborn 4kg to loose. i just seem to loose it. Can you please give me any advice thanks?
Carmen, feta cheese is okay as long as it is raw cheese. If you’re having trouble losing weight, though, I would recommend cutting the cheese out altogether.
I have switched to the Ezediel 4:9 bread and love it. The cinnamon raisin with a little peanut butter on is great and I don’t get that tired feeling after eating. It cost more but it is totally worth it. I have stopped drinking coffee so I feel the money I save on that more then pays for the bread.
