The Real Truth behind Organic Foods
Many people are unaware of what organic food really is. It seems that everywhere we go now, someone is promoting something that is “organic”. Are these foods worth your time and money?
It almost seems like some people are afraid of organic food. Could this be possible? Are people afraid that eating one morsel of organic food is going to somehow instantly initiate them into the organic food cult where you’re only allowed to wear sandals made from tree bark and deodorant is prohibited?
I swear I have had people say to me “Well, you can’t be that organic because you wear make-up and you don’t smell.”
What? That’s not what organic means at all! All it means is that the food or the product has been grown the way mother nature intended: without the use of chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. In other words, naturally!
Are some people afraid of the price? Organic does not automatically mean “break the bank”. Many times when I compare the price of the organic food versus the conventional food, they are only a few cents different. In the case of the bag of organic carrots I bought today for my lunch, they were the exact same price as the conventional ones. Imagine that!
If anything about the word “organic” makes you want to jump and run the other way, be sure to read my previous blog post “Is there such a thing as Cheap Organic Food?”

i have just started to see the benifits of organic and virgin products, i have started using extra virgin coconut oil , it has so many benifits
Aw, this was a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and never seem to get something done.
Organic foods is definitely something I aim to eat for myself and my family. The product tastes so much better when it is naturally grown.
Resistance training reminds me of what we do in ballet class. Of course, it’s important to know what muscles should be doing what to get the most out of it. Although I’m an advanced dancer, I can break into a sweat with the most basic class due to resistance/control of muscles used.
Well, I have not yet read this post, but it seems very intersting.I would like to read more blogs from you in the future. Keep up the good work.
Would you call your children to the table and feed them a plate full of chemicals and wash it down with a little poison in their glass? That’s what you are doing every time you feed them pesticide ridden veggies & fruit juice.
I’m just saying!
We shouldn’t put anything in our bodies that wasn’t grown 100 years ago. Thus Organic is the way to go! And stuff tastes so much better and i t doesn’t cost that much more.
I am a fan of fresh local organic food, too.
It is funny to think some might think one bite of organic food might make them – against their will – a cult member.
I wonder whether organic looks cult-y from the outside because it does not have the “authority” conferred by a multi-billion marketing budget and global saturation (Think Coca-Cola)? People feel “safe” with known-brands.
Yet organic farming has been going far longer than Coca-Cola! So fear not that first bite!

I am so happy to see people finally understanding the benefits of organics. My family has raised and made all our own foods for over 100 years (we are a centenial farm. We make our own catsup, mustard ect… One time my son went to a friends house and ate the BBQ sauce his mom had purchased and it made him horribly ill. Too many chemicals. Please read the labels. If you can’t pronounce the name of the ingredient it probably isn’t good for you.
hey isabel i have been on that diet and i have lost 10 lbs i love your work
Hi Isabel,
I enjoy reading your articles as they are so informative. I love to eat organically (maybe breaking the rules once in a bluemoon to kill the crave).
You are blessed that the price difference is only a few cents or slightly more for you. However, in the country where I live (Malaysia) the organic produces are all at least double the price of the mass!! It makes it hard for me to afford organics most of the time.
I’d like to thank your effort providing the articles as it is very informative and will definitely slowly live my life up to a healthier way.
)
I buy organic every chance I get. Its the way mother nature intended.
Your post misses the main reason to go organic, the reason why the movement began–raising food with tons of fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals is ruining the environment.
Organic is great – but it’s not grown without pesticides, nor is most of the commercially available organic produce grown totally chemically free. The pesticides, etc used just pass the government requirements. Some of the chemicals used are “safer”, but some like nicotine are deadly poison. Even some of the safer chemicals used, like sulfur, can be over used and cause trouble with the health of the soil. To help people understand how to grow organic food I wrote a guide explaining the importance of organic gardening. What you don’t know can hurt you and the Planet, too!
No jen, your comment is the very reason some people like me have been “afraid” to go organic. I think it is true that fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals have helped many people in impoverished countries to not starve.
i laugh when you said organic what does it mean your discription is top rank -
without the use of chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. In other words
the trouble i find is that organic cost a whole lot more.
