Chocolate Strawberry Oatmeal

Ingredients
1/3 cup oatmeal
1 cup water
1 scoop chocolate protein powder
3 large strawberries (or 5 small) cut in half or in quarters

Directions
Cook 1/3 cup dry oatmeal in 1 cup of water. Mix 1 scoop of protein powder with just a little bit of water, in a separate bowl, until it becomes thick. Add the powder and water mixture to the oatmeal. Top with cut strawberries and enjoy!

This is a super easy way to get in a high protein, high fiber and very filling breakfast.

For time saving purposes, I make several servings of oatmeal at once and keep it in the refrigerator for the next few days. In the morning, I scoop out 1 serving (1 heaping cup full) and heat it up on the stove top. Saves me a few minutes in the morning (every second counts, right?).

Looks good. I assume this uses regular oatmeal and not the instant.

I haven’t tried this yet. I am Scottish born and oatmeal is a staple in our diet. It seems an odd thing to do – making it a dessert by adding chocolate and strawberries. Even for brekky.
I also have a question – what do you think about Nutella. I live in Queensland, Australia and some of the things you talk about is very American and not how my husband and I eat (most Aussies) anyway. I’m 62 years old and am only a few kilo over weight about 4 kg’s and that has only come about in the last 18 months because we have been travelling all over OZ in a caravan. Cheers Sylvia.

The first ingredient in Nutella is sugar, and it also contains soy and skim milk – these are all things that should be avoided.

    Yes, NEVER instant oatmeal.

I thought you indicated that oatmeal was not acceptable as a breakfast cereal. I’m confused

Hi Isabel, is there anything wrong with having Soy Lite milk with breakfast in the morning or skim milk. It is hard to get raw milk, and even grass fed meat for that matter.

Oatmeal is acceptable – INSTANT oatmeal is not. As long as your are reading the labels and there are no additives or bleaching, oatmeal should be fine.

Many people may need to cut out all grains completely though – for those people, oatmeal is not a good thing to be eating at any time of the day.

Pauline, I suggest staying away from soy of any kind, so Soy Lite milk is not something I would recommend consuming.

why do we have to avoid milk?

Going to have to try this! My personal favourite thing to do with oatmeal is to fold in chopped banana, cinnamon and walnut pieces. Major mojo morning starter!

The notion of adding chocolate protien powder mixed with water, and fresh strawberries, sounds simply divine.

Something else to mention about the strawberries; they’re good for thyroid health, which in turn is good for maintaining a healthy metabolism.

Why do you not recommend Soy Lite milk? Do you not recommend any soy products?

Is all this stuff safe for kids? None of my children are overweight, just me and my husband.

Jennifer, the DSP is absolutely safe for kids! I feed my son the same type of food that I eat, and he’s definitely a healthy kid! This way of eating should not be just a means to an end (losing weight) – the idea is that it becomes part of your life.

Laura, I don’t recommend any soy products – there is an entire chapter on exactly why in the DSP manual.

so what can one do when there is a allergy against animal proteins (including eggs) and lactose? I will literally die if I do eat meat, unfortunately since I am a big meat lover. Soy milk is my way to get calcium etc.

Chayah, I don’t recommend consuming soy – unless it’s fermented (and even then, I would only suggest consuming occasionally). There are other foods you can eat to get calcium in your diet though. For example: kale, broccoli, okra, kidney and green beans, chickpeas, many nuts, sardines, figs, etc.

I have bought some fine Oatmeal which is milled from Whole Grain Oats, no preservatives or additives, but no instructions on the bag. How long does it take to cook your Chocolate Strawberry Oatmeal, Isabel?
    Many thanks.

Mary, my favorite alternative sweetener is stevia. This is becoming a much more popular product and should be available in many grocery stores.

Hi, I’d like to know if we can have ANY kind of milk, and if so, which ones are ok and if not cow’s milk, then why. Also, is it alright to use fructevia instead of steviva from the Steviva website in our diet? It sounds like it has a taste more like sugar, which would appeal to me more. Thanks!

Robert, cow’s milk is okay as long as it is raw (unpasteurized, unhomogenized) and organic. You can have coconut, almond or rice milk as great alternatives! I would stick with stevia – fructevia has added ingredients that make it a less than ideal choice.

Why does cow’s milk need to be raw. it is illegal in NC and I can only get the grassfed milk pasturized. Should I stop using it altogether. I am thinking about your program but want ot get a good handle on what I will be (or not) eating and doing. i have been into real foods for about a year but cant lose my weight. Sounds good so far.

Teresa, I understand that it can be difficult to get raw milk. If that’s the case, certified organic milk is your best bet.
