Best Fat Burning Foods to Help You Lose Weight
You don’t need to wear a plastic bag or sit in a hot sweatbox (yep, people actually do this stuff) to burn fat. If you incorporate some of the best fat burning foods into your diet, you can get lean and mean (in a nice way) faster than you think. Give your metabolism a kick in the pants with these foods.
Protein-Rich Foods
The body uses the amino acids in protein to help build lean muscle tissue. When you eat foods that contain this compound, your body releases a fat burning hormone called glucagon. This is why getting adequate amounts of protein in your diet can help boost fat loss.
You don’t have to gorge out on protein to reap the fat burning benefits. Adding a reasonable amount to each one of your meals will do the trick. Some DSP approved protein sources include wild fish, dry beans, raw nuts, nut butters, organic grass fed beef, organic poultry and organic whole eggs.
Sample Daily Meal Plan That Includes Protein
- Breakfast: 2 egg omelet with a bowl of fruit.
- Snack: 1 tablespoon of almond butter with celery sticks and grapes.
- Lunch: 6 oz beef burger, 1/2 cup of kidney beans and a small green salad with vinegar and olive oil dressing.
- Snack: 1 oz cashews and a pear.
- Dinner: 5 or 6 oz baked chicken (dark meat), sautéed spinach, 1/4 cup of cooked brown rice and a small green salad with vinegar and olive oil dressing.
Coconut Oil
Yikes! Don’t hit me over the head. I know coconut oil is a saturated fat, but let me explain why it’s good for you. With saturated fat being blamed for everything from heart disease to obesity, it’s no wonder people are so uptight about it.
Yes, some types of fats are bad for you. But I assure you, adding coconut oil to your diet won’t sentence you to a life of thunder thighs. Coconut oil is GOOD for you and it can really help burn fat.
Coconut oil is a medium-chain fatty acid. Unlike other saturated fats, it doesn’t get stored in the body as fat. Instead, it goes straight to the liver and is immediately turned into fuel for the body.
How to Incorporate Coconut Oil into Your Eating Plan
The best way to incorporate coconut oil in your diet is to cook with it. If you are currently using shortening and vegetable oil, stop. Coconut oil is a much healthier option. Here are a couple of recipes I like using this oil in.
Baked Chicken A La Isabel: I sent this recipe out in one of my newsletters, so you may have already gotten it. But just in case you didn’t, here it is again.
Ingredients: 1 whole baking chicken, Italian spices (let your taste buds be your guide), extra virgin coconut oil
Directions: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Put 1 to 2 tablespoons of coconut oil in a pan and melt over low heat. Put 1 to 2 teaspoons of each of your favorite Italian spices in a bowl. Pour the melted oil in with the spices and mix them together. After the spice mixture is cool, rub the mixture under the chicken skin with your hands.
Put the seasoned chicken, breast side down, in a glass baking dish. Pop it in the oven and bake for 2 to 3 hours. Cooking time will vary based on the size of your chicken.
Homemade Almond Butter: I love to make my own almond butter because it’s easy and I can control the ingredients.
Ingredients: almonds, coconut oil
Directions: Soak the almonds in water overnight. Put the nuts and a little coconut oil in the food processor and blend until it gets creamy. Use this delicious spread on apples, carrots, peppers and other healthy foods you enjoy.
