The main difference is - the forward lunge - foot goes forward, lower body, raise body, foot goes back to start (together) the repeat the whole move for a rep. Split squat the foot stays forward and you lower and raise your body until you have completed your reps then your foot goes back to start (together). Hope I've explained okay.
