  1. Thanks Isabella, I have both his and your programs and I wanted to know is there a way to incorporate more beans in place of fish and chicken/meat?

    Thanks again and happy Thanksgiving!

  2. Hey Tanya,
Yes, you can use beans as a source of protein but make sure and stay varied. Don’t just use beans, but also looks to nuts, nut butter, cottage cheese and eggs.

  3. I have bought Joel’s old program, not the Holiday version, and I was wondering how that fits into metebolic typing that you do.

  4. Hey Stephanie,
The information is pretty similar and the program can be done together.

  5. what do you think of truvia . thankyou .

  6. Hi Isabel
Have only just started your program – do I really need this as well? It sounds like a structered “diet” – thought the point was not to be on a diet? Can you give a few brief tips on how to cheat on the DSP, without another program to have to purchase and read thru (busy mum of two preschoolers!)
    Thanks for all your advice,
    Angela

  7. Hey Angela,
This is totally optional but if you wanted to try both programs together, they blend well. This is more for a cheat oriented food schedule.

  8. Hey Neil,
While Truvia is similar to stevia, you would be better off with using only stevia. Truvia has additional ingredients (like “natural flavors” that are not defined specifically) that are unnecessary. When you purchase Stevia, the ingredients should only say Stevia. Baking Stevia also contains erythritol which is a sugar alcohol which is ok for baking but pure stevia is still best.

  9. As far as metabolic typing goes, the best way to incorporate that with Joel’s program is to pick the foods each day that are best for your specific metabolic type. So if you’re a protein type, choose those meats, fruits, veggies and grains that are on your “best foods” sheet.

  10. If you do not have Joel’s program, you can incorporate one “non DSP” meal into your week that you wouldn’t normally include as part of your program.
But I do believe the way Joel structures each day leading up to the cheat day is extremely effective and well worth trying.

  11. Dear Isabel,
Joel talks about one portion of protein per meal and snack. This would total up to 5 servings a day. According to the mixed plan I should be eating 12 servings in a day. To follow both plans – should I cut back on my proteins or have I misunderstood the basic instruction on what Joel ment with protein serving.

    Thanks,
    Tuula

  12. Hi Isabella, does de low carb day mean that I really can’t eat any fruit, dried fruits, berries, sprouted grain bread, otmeal, oatbran, ricebran, wheat germ, brown rice, sweet potatoes and all the other DSP approved carbs? It’s hard to find a lot of idea for breakfast without these foods.

    Thank you, Nicolas

  13. Hi Isabel:

I bought Joel Marion’s Cheat Your Way Thin Program and I am a little concerned about the amount of eggs he recommends on the Low Carb days. Basically, he seems to recommend eating about 3 eggs a day for breakfast, almost every day. Though I love eggs and would gladly eat three at a time, I wonder what that will to to my cholesterol. As a nutritionist, what do you recommend? Can a person eat that many eggs and not have to worry about cholesterol? I am referring to eggs from free-range chickens (but that also get grain to eat, I believe), not battery chickens.

I’d love to hear your opinion, as, in general, Joel’s program looks very interesting to me, as well as feasible as a life-style.

    Cheers,

  14. Hi Nicolas,

Yes, that is correct. On the designated low carb days, you are really only eating protein, healthy fats and veggies. So a typical breakfast would be eggs or leftover protein from the night before (chicken, beef or fish) and some cooked veggies. Think omelet or chicken and sauteed spinach.

Remember, its only a few days and the whole program is not low carb, so you will be able to re-introduce those healthy carbs that you mention on the other days.

    All the best :)

    Isabel

  15. Hi Virginia,

As long as they are organic eggs, you do not need to be concerned about how many you are eating in one day.

Please refer to the Fats Chapter in the Diet Solution Manual and it will give you a thorough explanation of why healthy fats do not negatively affect cholesterol.

    All the best :)

    Isabel

  16. Hi Tuula,

Joel considers 3-4 ounces as 1 serving where as in the DSP, each ounce counts as 1 protein. Essentially, the protein amounts equate to be about the same (12-15 ounces).

    Isabel :)

  17. Isabel,

I saw a new (to me) product on TV and wondered what you know about it. Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze by Blue Diamond. I haven’t been able to read the label, but thought you might have run across this product before.

    What do you think?

    Thanks,
    Krystal
